In a significant boost to community development, Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Hon. Senator Dr. Appolonia Munzverengwi, commissioned multiple devolution-funded projects in Hwedza District on October 14, 2024.

The commissioned projects aim to enhance education and local economic growth. Modern classroom blocks were handed over to Guruuswa Secondary School in Ward 1 and Tongogara Secondary School, vastly improving learning environments for hundreds of students. Additionally, staff accommodation for teachers in Ward 4 addresses long-standing housing challenges.

A state-of-the-art flea market in Hwedza Ward 15 provides a vibrant platform for local entrepreneurs, stimulating commerce and economic growth. These initiatives demonstrate the government’s commitment to devolution, empowering communities to drive their development.

“The devolution agenda is about bringing development to people’s doorsteps,” said Hon. Senator Dr. Munzverengwi. “We’re ensuring resources reach grassroots levels.”

Local residents welcomed the projects, citing improved education and economic opportunities. “These classroom blocks will help our children learn in better conditions,” said Guruuswa Secondary School Headmaster. “The flea market will increase our customer base and sales,” added Mrs Nyika, a local vendor.

The projects’ implementation is a testament to collaborative efforts between government, stakeholders, and communities. As Hwedza District continues to grow, these devolution-funded initiatives pave the way for a brighter future.
