Ecobank Heist: Zimbabwe Police Hunt for Suspects in US$4 Million Robbery

A daring daylight robbery at Ecobank’s Bulawayo branch on October 3, 2024, has left authorities scrambling to track down the culprits. The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) suspects insider involvement in the US$4 million heist.

“The investigation is ongoing, and we’re exploring all angles,” . We urge anyone with information to come forward and assist us in bringing those responsible to justice,” said Commissioner Paul Nyathi.

The robbery occurred when six armed men overpowered security personnel and made off with three trunks containing the cash. Ecobank has temporarily closed the affected branch to facilitate investigations.

The incident has raised concerns about security protocols at Ecobank and Safeguard Security Company, which was responsible for transporting the cash. Critics argue that inadequate communication and security measures contributed to the successful heist.

Commissioner Nyathi has dismissed false social media reports and reassured the public that updates will be provided as new information becomes available.

This high-profile crime has shocked the nation, and authorities are working tirelessly to ensure justice is served.
