His Excellency President Dr. Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa presided over the Zimbabwe National Elders Forum at State House, yesterday. Bring together a diverse assembly of senior groups, intellectual, and scholars from various vacation to discuss pivotal national issues.
The Zimbabwe National Elders Forum (ZNEF) aims to harness the wisdom and experience of it’s members to contribute to national and policy formulation. In his opening remarks, President Dr. E. D. Mnangagwa emphasized the importance of guidance from seasoned leaders in shaping the country’s future, particularly in alignment with the Government’s Vision 2030 initiative, which seeks to transform Zimbabwe into an upper middle income economy by 2030.
The Chairperson of the Zimbabwe National Elders Forum, Rev. Dr. Felix Mukonowengwe said,“Our problem was when the Government said they were going to compensate the white commercial farmers. So we thought it’s a good thing but they were people who were removed from their properties a long time ago before we moved the whites.”
The Chairperson said, “they went to the President with the issue they had researched for 3 years to understand what had taken place. This was unfair, the people who were moved from their fertile lands they have not been compensated and there was no voice to say we are sorry. We are here to tell Zimbabwe and the world that these people must be compensated somehow.”
