As the world prepares to mark Anti-Sanctions Day on October 25, the Southern African Development Community (SADC) has reaffirmed its unwavering support for Zimbabwe. The regional bloc has called for the immediate and unconditional removal of sanctions imposed on the country, citing their devastating impact on ordinary citizens.

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has added his voice to the growing chorus, emphasizing the need for sanctions to be lifted to allow Zimbabwe to focus on sustainable development and improve the lives of its citizens.

The sanctions, imposed in 2002, have crippled Zimbabwe’s economy and limited its access to international funds. State-owned companies face frozen foreign assets, and the country struggles to access essential services.

SADC’s solidarity with Zimbabwe is a powerful statement of regional unity and cooperation. The bloc recognizes that the sanctions are not only a Zimbabwean issue but a regional concern, with far-reaching implications for economic stability and growth.

As Anti-Sanctions Day approaches, stakeholders across the region are joining forces to amplify the call for sanctions removal. Peaceful demonstrations, rallies, and awareness campaigns are planned, highlighting the urgent need for international cooperation.

As the international community comes together to support Zimbabwe, it is clear that the sanctions must be lifted. It is time for Zimbabwe to reclaim its rightful place in the global community, free from the shackles of economic isolation.
