Zimbabwe Revises 2023 GDP Upwards Following Economic Census
The government has revised Zimbabwe’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for 2023 upwards to ZWL168.5 trillion, equivalent to US\$44.4 billion, from the initial estimate of ZWL133.7 trillion (US\$35.2 billion), following findings from the latest economic census.
This was announced during Tuesday’s Post Cabinet briefing, where authorities revealed that the Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency (ZIMSTAT) conducted the Economic Census for the year 2023 during 2024 and the first quarter of 2025.
The updated figures reflect a significant increase in the estimated size of the economy, highlighting improved data coverage and a broader measurement of economic activities across sectors.
Government officials said the comprehensive census exercise aimed to strengthen evidence-based policy formulation and economic planning. The revision is expected to enhance macroeconomic indicators and improve Zimbabwe’s attractiveness to investors.
Further details on sectoral contributions to GDP and revised economic growth projections are set to be released in upcoming reports.
