Minister Garwe Commissions Bwoni Clinic, Ending 10km Walk to Kunaka Clinic for Villagers

The Minister of Local Government and Public Works, Honourable Daniel Garwe, has officially commissioned the newly constructed Bwoni Clinic, bringing critical healthcare services closer to villagers in the area.

The construction of Bwoni Clinic was initiated after residents reported severe challenges in accessing medical care.

Previously, villagers were forced to walk approximately 10 kilometres to Kunaka Clinic in Dema, the nearest health facility.

The commissioning of the new clinic marks a significant milestone in improving rural healthcare infrastructure and addressing long-standing community health needs. Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Garwe highlighted that the government remains committed to ensuring equitable access to quality health services for all citizens, regardless of location.

“This clinic stands as a testament to our commitment to leaving no one behind. Communities must have access to basic health services without having to travel long and unsafe distances,” he said.

Residents expressed relief and excitement, noting that the opening of Bwoni Clinic will reduce travel burdens, improve response times during emergencies, and contribute to the overall well-being of the community.

Local leaders also praised the development, emphasising that accessible healthcare will help reduce preventable illnesses and maternal health complications, often worsened by delays in seeking treatment.

The opening of Bwoni Clinic aligns with national efforts to decentralise healthcare services and strengthen primary healthcare delivery in rural areas.
