By Leeroy Willie
The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure Development has directed Tika Chem Investments, a Harare-based transport company, to cover the costs of repairs after one of its trucks caused damage at the Trabablas Interchange.
According to an official statement, the incident occurred on July 8 when a Tika Chem truck transporting granite was involved in an accident. The truck’s load dislodged and damaged both the guard rails and sections of the newly built pavement at the interchange.
In response, authorities have impounded the vehicle pending a full investigation by the Vehicle Inspection Department (VID).
The ministry confirmed that Tika Chem Investments will be responsible for all repair work and associated expenses. The truck will not be released until repairs are completed to the ministry’s satisfaction and the VID confirms the vehicle complies with all safety standards.
“The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure Development notifies the public of an incident involving a truck owned by Tika Chem Investments (Pvt) Ltd, based at 551 Empowerment Way, Willowvale, Harare,” the statement read. “The truck was transporting granite when the load shifted, causing significant damage to infrastructure at the Trabablas Interchange.”
