435 dog, 21 snake bites recorded

Alarming statistics from the Ministry of Health and Child Care have revealed that a total of 435 people were bitten by dogs, while 29 others were bitten by snakes in various parts of the country in the past fortnight.

In a statement, the ministry said the highest cases of dog bites were recorded in Masvingo and Midlands provinces, respectively.

“435 dog bite cases and zero deaths were reported this week.

“Of the reported cases, 107 were bitten by vaccinated dogs, 83 by unvaccinated dogs, and 245 by dogs of unknown status.

“The highest cases were reported from Masvingo province (84) and Midlands (64).”

It stated that the cumulative figure of dog bites stands at 15 315 cases.

The ministry indicated that a total of 21 snake bites and zero deaths were recorded during the same period.

“The cumulative figure for snake bites is 2 979 and nine deaths,” said the Ministry.
