A joint task force comprising ZimParks and police units thwarted a rhino poaching syndicate in Chipinge Safari Area, resulting in two poachers being killed in a shootout.

ZimParks spokesperson Tinashe Farawo confirmed the development saying investigations are underway.
He said the shoot out happened in the past week.

“It is with my great sadness that two suspected poachers were shot dead in Chipinge Safari Area after an exchange of gun fire with ZimParks rangers and police officers.

“Two other suspects managed to escape. Investigations are in progress and one automatic rifle was recovered,” said Mr Farawo.
