Darwendale Horror: 9-Year-Old Boy Killed in Dog Attack

Published

on

Tragedy struck the farming community of Bonvalley Farm in Darwendale, Zvimba District, when a nine-year-old boy lost his life after being attacked by dogs while playing with friends last week.

According to the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), the heartbreaking incident occurred while the child was playing with other minors in the area. The dogs, whose breed and number were not specified, reportedly turned violent and mauled the boy to death.

Mashonaland West Provincial Police Spokesperson, Inspector Ian Kohwera, confirmed the incident.

“A nine-year-old boy was bitten to death by dogs at Bonvalley Farm, Darwendale, while he was playing with other children,” said Inspector Kohwera.

The dogs belonged to a local resident whose identity has not yet been disclosed. The owner is expected to appear in court today to face charges in connection with the incident.

This is not the first such case reported this year. In another disturbing incident, a 40-year-old man from New Bluffhill in Harare was arrested and charged with culpable homicide after his pit bull fatally attacked a man on the street, police said.

These tragic cases have raised growing concerns over pet owner responsibility, especially in rural and urban areas where domestic animals are often left to roam freely. Authorities are urging the public to secure their pets properly and ensure the safety of those around them, particularly children and pedestrians.

Police Arrest Mugabe’s Son in SA

Bellarmine Chatunga Mugabe, the son of the late former Zimbabwean president Robert Mugabe, was arrested today by South African police after an employee was shot at the family’s residence in the affluent Hyde Park suburb of Johannesburg.

According to reports from multiple news outlets, the incident unfolded at the Mugabe family home, where a dispute allegedly escalated into gunfire.

The victim, identified as a household employee, was shot during the altercation and is reported to be in critical condition in hospital.

Emergency responders and police swiftly arrived at the scene following the shooting.

Mugabe was reportedly taken into custody at the property, and law enforcement sources indicated that authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

The exact motive behind the dispute leading to the shooting has not been publicly disclosed.

Local law enforcement has yet to release detailed statements regarding charges that may be filed against Mugabe, who remains in police custody pending further legal action.

This incident adds to a history of legal issues involving members of the Mugabe family.

In previous years, Bellarmine Chatunga Mugabe has faced multiple allegations of violent conduct, including assault charges in Zimbabwe in 2025, when he appeared in a magistrate’s court over accusations of attacking security personnel at a mine in Mazowe.

Magaya Claims Rape Trial Is a “Proxy War” Backed by Makandiwa

Prophet Walter Magaya has intensified his court challenge by alleging that his ongoing rape trial is being driven by personal and religious interests rather than impartial justice.

In correspondence addressed to Prosecutor-General Loice Matanda-Moyo, Magaya’s lawyers, Rubaya and Chatambudza Legal Practitioners, accuse a senior official within the National Prosecuting Authority of acting with bias.

The legal team claims that prosecutor Tendayi Shonhayi is a committed member of United Family International Church, led by fellow cleric Emmanuel Makandiwa, whom they describe as a religious rival to Magaya.

According to the defense, this alleged affiliation compromises Shonhayi’s objectivity and turns the criminal proceedings into what they describe as a “proxy battle” aimed at undermining Magaya and his ministry, PHD Ministries.

The lawyers argue that the prosecution is being used as a tool to weaken their client’s church and reputation, asserting that the case is driven by sectarian competition rather than a genuine pursuit of justice.
