Darwendale Horror: 9-Year-Old Boy Killed in Dog Attack
Tragedy struck the farming community of Bonvalley Farm in Darwendale, Zvimba District, when a nine-year-old boy lost his life after being attacked by dogs while playing with friends last week.
According to the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), the heartbreaking incident occurred while the child was playing with other minors in the area. The dogs, whose breed and number were not specified, reportedly turned violent and mauled the boy to death.
Mashonaland West Provincial Police Spokesperson, Inspector Ian Kohwera, confirmed the incident.
“A nine-year-old boy was bitten to death by dogs at Bonvalley Farm, Darwendale, while he was playing with other children,” said Inspector Kohwera.
The dogs belonged to a local resident whose identity has not yet been disclosed. The owner is expected to appear in court today to face charges in connection with the incident.
This is not the first such case reported this year. In another disturbing incident, a 40-year-old man from New Bluffhill in Harare was arrested and charged with culpable homicide after his pit bull fatally attacked a man on the street, police said.
These tragic cases have raised growing concerns over pet owner responsibility, especially in rural and urban areas where domestic animals are often left to roam freely. Authorities are urging the public to secure their pets properly and ensure the safety of those around them, particularly children and pedestrians.
