Scottland’s Dzvukamanja Double Downs Highlanders
Mabvuku-based newcomers Scottland FC pulled off an impressive comeback to defeat Bulawayo giants Highlanders 2-1 in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League Week 21 showdown at Rufaro Stadium on Sunday.
Having recently been awarded three points from their abandoned match against Chicken Inn, Scottland made full use of the opportunity to climb closer to the top of the league table. The victory was sealed by a brilliant brace from Terrence Dzvukamanja, their recent signing from South Africa.
The match began with a bang, as Highlanders took the lead in the 16th minute through Mafious Chihweta. However, Scottland responded swiftly, with Dzvukamanja equalising just six minutes later.
Highlanders were handed a chance to retake the lead with a penalty, but the opportunity was wasted. Dzvukamanja punished them in the 69th minute with his second goal of the day, turning the game in Scottland’s favour.
A promotional roadshow held in Harare on Saturday appeared to work wonders, as it helped draw a lively crowd to back the PSL debutants in what turned out to be a thrilling encounter.
With the win, Scottland stays in third place in the standings with 37 points, just six behind current leaders Simba Bhora. Highlanders remain in eighth position with 27 points.
