Brothers Caught in Night-Time Robbery

Two Chegutu siblings robbery spree, pouncing on their victims in the dead of the night at a local shopping center, was thwarted by police detectives.

NPA said the two brothers, Boniface Magwaza (30) and Leon Magwaza (21) of Zarangi Village, Mubaira, have been sentenced by the Chegutu Magistrates’ Court after being found guilty of robbery.

“On 29 May 2025, at Chirundazi Business Centre, Mubaira, they robbed Joseph Sibanda of US$110 and his national identity card.

“The court heard that the victim was at Chirundazi Business Centre when the two offenders followed him to the toilet.

The first offender grabbed him by the neck, while the second offender assaulted him with fists and threatened him with a knife,” said NPA.

The duo searched him and took his wallet containing USD 110 and his national identity card.

The NPA said the offenders were sentenced to 14 months imprisonment, with four months suspended for five years.

“An additional one month imprisonment was suspended on the condition that they each restitute the complainant USD55. They will serve an effective 9 months.”
