President Mnangagwa to Commission Zimplats Solar Power Plant in Selous
President Emmerson Mnangagwa is set to officially commission a new solar power plant developed by platinum mining giant Zimplats this Wednesday.
The state-of-the-art facility is located in Selous, Mashonaland West, and is expected to provide a reliable and sustainable electricity supply to support the company’s mining operations.
The launch of the solar plant marks a major milestone in Zimbabwe’s drive towards energy self-sufficiency and the adoption of clean, renewable sources of power. With increasing demand for stable electricity in the mining and industrial sectors, the Zimplats solar initiative is seen as a timely and strategic investment.
This project also reflects the government’s ongoing efforts to encourage private sector participation in energy production.
Under its Independent Power Producers (IPP) framework, Zimbabwe has been actively promoting partnerships with companies that can generate electricity and help ease the national power deficit.
