President Mnangagwa to Launch Global Wetlands Conference in Victoria Falls
President Emmerson Mnangagwa is scheduled to officially open the 15th Conference of the Parties (COP15) to the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands this Thursday in Victoria Falls.
The international gathering, hosted in Zimbabwe’s tourism capital, also designated as a Ramsar Wetland City, marks a historic moment as Zimbabwe takes over the presidency of the convention from China for the next three years.
A key highlight of the opening ceremony will be the high-level ministerial session and the unveiling of the Victoria Falls Declaration, a major policy statement reaffirming Zimbabwe’s commitment to conserving and restoring its wetland ecosystems.
President Mnangagwa’s presence at the event signals the country’s firm stance on environmental protection and sustainable land use.
The conference also offers him a platform to promote stronger global partnerships in safeguarding wetlands, often referred to as the “green lungs of the planet” due to their vital role in biodiversity, water purification, and climate resilience.
