ZRP Releases Names of 17 Victims in Tragic Seke Road Crash
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has released the names of the 17 people who perished in a devastating traffic accident on Tuesday involving a commuter omnibus and a haulage truck at Hunyani Bridge along Seke Road in Chitungwiza.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, ZRP spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the deceased, who include two minor children and adults from various parts of Harare, Ruwa, and Murehwa.
Among the deceased were:
Tatenda Silia (25), the kombi driver from Rockview West, Zengeza 5 Extension
Wishby Nganima (19), from Nyatsime
Letwin Hwingwiri (52) and Talent Hwingwiri (18), from St John’s Bhora, Murehwa
Frederick Jumo (39), Emma Matare (32), Joshua Gutsa (7), and Perpetua Kurwa (35), all from Stoneridge, Harare
Shantel Jere (3) and Rainford Jere (29), from St Mary’s, Chitungwiza
Prodigas Mugere (37) and Mary Nyambiri (63), also from St Mary’s
Tatenda Dhokwani (25), of Damafalls, Ruwa
Samantha Taderera (27), from Zimre Park, Harare
Sheilla Nemasango (58), of Nyatsime
Samantha Nyangani (32), from Unit P, Seke
Anyway Maguduru (26), from Manyame Park, Chitungwiza
Commissioner Nyathi extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and emphasized that a thorough investigation is underway to establish the precise circumstances that led to the crash.
He also took the opportunity to remind motorists of the importance of road safety.
“We urge all drivers to remain vigilant and prioritize safety at all times. Regular vehicle maintenance is essential to prevent mechanical failures and ensure safe travel,” said Commissioner Nyathi.
