Isaiah Mupfurutsa Beats Rivals to Become PSL Chairman
Isaiah Mupfurutsa of Simba Bhora has been elected the new Chairman of the Premier Soccer League (PSL), following a keenly contested executive election held in Harare on Thursday.
Mupfurutsa beat fellow candidates Masimba Chihohwa (Manica Diamonds), Dumisani Sisale (FC Platinum), and Leonard Musariri (Ngezi Platinum) to secure the top post. The elections were supervised by the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) and mark a significant turning point for the PSL, which had been operating without a substantive chairperson since the resignation of Farai Jere in 2024.
Mupfurutsa’s election is expected to usher in a new phase of leadership focused on professionalism, financial sustainability, and stronger governance within Zimbabwe’s top-flight football league.
Alongside Mupfurutsa, the newly elected PSL executive includes:
-
Kenneth Mhlophe – Vice Chairman
-
Moses Maunganidze – Emergency Committee Member
-
Oscah Nduwure – Emergency Committee Member
ZWSL Election Still Underway
Meanwhile, voting for the Zimbabwe Women’s Super League (ZWSL) chairperson was still ongoing at the time of publication. The election features Chido Chizondo of Platinum Royals and Thokoziso Moyo of Black Rhinos Queens.
The ZWSL has been under interim administration since the removal of former chairperson Barbara Chikosi by the ZIFA Normalisation Committee over allegations of poor governance. The ongoing election is expected to restore formal leadership to the women’s game and strengthen administrative oversight.
Today’s elections are viewed as a pivotal moment for Zimbabwean football, as both leagues seek to rebuild structures, enhance credibility, and attract renewed support from sponsors and fans.
