Harare Driver Pays Price After Pedestrian Killed in Accident
A Harare man, Munyaradzi Luke Chirombe (36), has been convicted of culpable homicide by the Hwange Magistrates’ Court after causing a fatal road traffic accident that claimed the life of a pedestrian along the Bulawayo–Victoria Falls Road.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the tragic incident occurred on 13 January 2025 at the 281 km peg when the offender, driving a Toyota Townace, lost control of the vehicle, veered off the road, and fatally struck Tobias Dube, who was walking on the far right side of the road.
“The victim died upon admission at Mpilo Hospital in Bulawayo,” said the NPA.
The NPA further stated, “The particulars of negligence were as follows: driving at an excessive speed, failure to maintain proper control of the vehicle, and failure to act reasonably when danger became imminent.”
The offender was sentenced to a fine of USD 500 or six months’ imprisonment in default of payment.
