A bus transporting FC Platinum fans was involved in a serious road accident approximately 25 kilometers outside Chiredzi as they returned from the club’s away match against GreenFuel in Chisumbanje.

The crash occurred following a head-on collision with a Toyota Hilux, resulting in the instant death of the Hilux driver. No deaths were recorded among the FC Platinum supporters, but several passengers sustained injuries.

According to sources, some of the injured fans were rushed to nearby hospitals for medical attention, though the full extent of their injuries is yet to be confirmed.

The incident comes during a difficult time for the club, which is still grieving the recent passing of midfielder Brian Banda. Banda lost his life in a separate accident late last month near Filabusi, when the vehicle he was travelling in overturned while attempting to avoid an oncoming car. The crash claimed two lives, including Banda’s.

Just days after Banda’s death, FC Platinum was hit by another blow when winger Oscar Bhebhe was involved in a road accident that left him with a broken arm. He is currently recovering.

The series of traffic accidents involving the club’s players and supporters has raised serious concern within the local football community. There are growing calls for stricter road safety protocols, especially when it comes to team travel and fan transport.
