ZDF Builds Double-Storey Classroom for Warren Park Learners
Warren Park Six Primary School in Harare has received a major boost to its infrastructure after the Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF) handed over a newly built double-storey classroom block.
The development, unveiled on Wednesday, is part of the ZDF’s Community Assistance Week, an annual initiative aimed at supporting grassroots development across the country.
The donation marks a major milestone for the school, as it brings an end to the long-standing issue of hot-seating, which had been affecting the learning environment due to overcrowding.
Local parents and guardians expressed immense appreciation for the development, describing it as a timely intervention that will improve education outcomes in the area.
“This is a huge step forward. My grandchildren attend this school, and the overcrowding had become a serious challenge. Thanks to the ZDF, our children will now learn in comfort,” said a grateful community member.
“This building is more than just infrastructure; it’s an investment in the future of our children. We thank the Defence Forces for remembering us,” added another parent.
The project was implemented as part of the ZDF’s ongoing efforts to support national development through the Community Assistance Week, a programme aimed at uplifting under-resourced communities through infrastructure and social services.
Harare Metropolitan Province permanent secretary, Mr. Cosmas Chiringa, lauded the Defence Forces for their continued partnership with local authorities in addressing infrastructure gaps.
“We sincerely thank the ZDF for this noble gesture. Their contribution plays a vital role in advancing the infrastructural needs of our province,” Chiringa said.
Speaking on behalf of Zimbabwe Defence Forces Commander General Philip Valerio Sibanda, Lieutenant General Emmanuel Matatu, Commander of the Zimbabwe National Army, reaffirmed the ZDF’s dedication to education and community upliftment in line with the national Vision 2030 agenda.
“The Zimbabwe Defence Forces are not only guardians of peace and national security but also active contributors to socio-economic progress. Communities are our foundation, our source of recruits, and our future. That is why we honour them through initiatives like this,” said Lt. Gen. Matatu.
He emphasised that such projects fall under the military’s secondary roles, namely, military assistance to civil ministries and communities, highlighting the Defence Forces’ broader commitment to development beyond the barracks.
As the ZDF Community Assistance Week continues to roll out nationwide, more community-based projects are expected to be unveiled, solidifying the military’s role as a partner in development and social progress.
