President Mnangagwa Pays Tribute to the Late National Hero Joseph Msika
President Emmerson Mnangagwa has joined the nation in marking the 16th anniversary of the passing of former Vice President and veteran nationalist, Comrade Joseph Wilfred Msika, who died on August 4, 2009.
In a commemorative message, the President described Cde Msika as a courageous and unwavering advocate for Zimbabwe’s independence, sovereignty, and development. He emphasized that as the country reflects on the contributions of its national heroes and heroines, its commitment to resisting neo-colonial influences grows stronger.
A key figure in Zimbabwe’s liberation struggle, Msika was known for his steadfast opposition to colonial rule and racial injustice. His efforts were instrumental in mobilizing and recruiting young people into liberation training camps, both regionally and internationally.
Referred to fondly by his comrades as “Bruno,” Cde Msika embodied values such as unity, selflessness, peace, honesty, and the pursuit of freedom—principles President Mnangagwa urged all Zimbabweans to uphold in the spirit of national unity and progress.
The President highlighted that remembering icons like Msika should inspire citizens to work collectively toward the country’s development goals, including Vision 2030, which envisions a technologically advanced, knowledge-based, upper middle-income society. He also called on the nation to honor the legacy of fallen heroes by embracing productive, climate-smart agriculture to boost national prosperity.
