The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has arrested Assistant Inspector Simbarashe Mandizvidza over alleged treasonous statements posted on social media, police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi has confirmed.

Nyathi said the officer is facing both disciplinary charges under the Police Act (Chapter 11:10) and criminal proceedings.

“The errant member is now facing both disciplinary charges under the Police Act and criminal proceedings,” said Nyathi.

According to police, Mandizvidza’s remarks were deemed to undermine national security and contravene the law. He is expected to appear in court soon.

Police Commissioner-General Stephen Mutamba assured the public that the ZRP remains committed to its constitutional mandate.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police will continue serving the people of Zimbabwe and the country’s leadership in line with the tenets of the police’s constitutional mandate,” Mutamba said.

The arrest has sparked public debate over professional conduct within the force, with authorities reiterating that law enforcement officers are expected to uphold the highest standards of discipline and respect for the law.
