Fiancée of Former Footballer Alois Bunjira Dies Following Car Accident

Alois Bunjira had been preparing to marry his fiancée, Brenda Zvinorova, in December. Sadly, those plans have been cut short following Brenda’s passing in Harare yesterday — three days after sustaining critical injuries in a car accident on the Rusape-Nyanga road.

The tragic collision, which occurred on Saturday, involved a head-on crash between the BMW driven by Bunjira and another vehicle. Two people in the other car died on the scene. Brenda, who was traveling with Bunjira, was severely injured.

Initially, both were taken to Rusape General Hospital, but due to the extent of Brenda’s injuries, she was transferred the same day to Milton Park Medical Centre in Harare. Despite being placed on life support, she succumbed to her injuries after fighting for her life for three days.

Both Bunjira and Brenda were actively involved in organizing the NetOne Albun Marathon. Photographs from past events show Brenda playing a prominent role, often seated at the top table.

Andrew Rusike, a Harare businessman and chairman of the marathon’s organizing committee, confirmed the seriousness of their relationship.

“Brenda was engaged to Alois,” Rusike told H-Metro. “They lived together in Westgate, and I know Alois had planned to marry her at the end of the year.”

He added that Brenda served as the administrator for the committee and was deeply involved in the event’s logistics.

Rusike, who arrived early at the scene of the crash, recounted pulling Brenda from the wreckage.

“She had visible injuries on her hands,” he said. “After I got her out of the car, the first thing she asked me was if her hands were still there.”

According to him, they were on a work trip related to the NetOne Albun Marathon. The goal was to evaluate whether the marathon could serve as a qualifier for the Comrades Marathon. A representative from the Comrades Marathon was with them, and they had specialized equipment to assess the course. The plan was to complete the evaluation over two days instead of three due to scheduling constraints.

“We left Harare early Saturday. Alois and Brenda were ahead of us and had already passed Rusape around 9:30am,” said Rusike.

Police confirmed the incident took place eight kilometers along the Rusape-Nyanga road.

“Two fatalities were recorded, and three others were injured after an Isuzu pickup truck with three occupants attempted to overtake a bus and collided head-on with an oncoming BMW,” authorities reported.

Bunjira was driving the BMW with Brenda as his passenger when the crash occurred. The two fatalities were passengers in the Isuzu vehicle.
