Ministry Announces Traffic Detours for Mabvuku Interchange Works
Motorists in the Mabvuku area should expect traffic diversions beginning 9 September 2025, as work on the new Mabvuku Interchange gets underway, the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development has announced.
In a statement released Tuesday, the ministry explained that the detour routes are being introduced to protect both drivers and construction workers while the interchange is being built.
“The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development would like to notify all road users that traffic will be redirected via detour routes to accommodate the construction of the Mabvuku Interchange,” the statement read.
“The temporary routes will become operational on Tuesday, 9 September 2025, to ensure smooth traffic flow and maintain safety throughout the rehabilitation process.”
The ministry emphasized that the detours are a necessary measure for the safe continuation of construction activities and assured the public that proper signage will be installed to assist drivers navigating the alternative routes.
“We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and thank the public for their understanding and cooperation during this period,” the statement added.
This development follows President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s earlier announcement during the commissioning of the Trabablas Interchange—formerly Mbudzi Roundabout—that the government plans to build several interchanges across Harare. The upcoming projects include major upgrades at key junctions such as Mabvuku, Harare Drive, Westgate, and Kuwadzana traffic circles.
