President Mnangagwa to Hand Over 1,000 Title Deeds to Farmers in Mazowe
President Emmerson Mnangagwa is set to distribute title deeds to 1,000 farmers today at a high-profile ceremony taking place at Craigengower Farm in Mashonaland Central Province, as part of the ongoing Presidential Title Deeds Programme.
The initiative, which aims to overhaul land ownership structures in the country, seeks to replace existing 99-year leases, offer letters, and land permits with legally recognized, bankable title deeds. This move is expected to provide farmers with secure land tenure, enabling them to use their property as collateral for accessing credit and investing in modern farming infrastructure.
The program represents a major step in formalizing land rights and unlocking economic value in Zimbabwe’s agricultural sector.
In conjunction with the title deed handover, government officials will also launch the distribution of production booster kits designed to improve irrigation systems. Each kit includes pumps, pipes, and other essential components capable of irrigating up to one hectare of farmland.
The rollout of these kits is part of a broader national effort to build resilience against climate change by reducing dependence on unpredictable rainfall and promoting year-round agricultural productivity.
Mashonaland Central Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister Christopher Magomo confirmed that approximately 30,000 people are expected to attend the event, including farmers from across the province.
Today’s ceremony marks the latest phase in a broader national campaign, which began in December 2024 in Kwekwe. The program ultimately aims to issue title deeds to more than 360,000 landholders across the country.
