President Emmerson Mnangagwa has officially launched the A1 Irrigation Productivity Booster Kits initiative at Craigengower Farm in Mazowe, in a bold effort to boost food production and shield agriculture from climate-related risks.

The programme, which targets A1 farmers, will initially benefit 10,000 recipients. Each farmer will access a US$6,000 loan facility aimed at setting up irrigation systems capable of servicing three hectares. The scheme seeks to reduce dependence on rainfall and promote year-round farming.

Speaking at the launch, President Mnangagwa revealed that the government has committed nearly US$2 billion to fund the nationwide rollout of the kits over the coming years.

This initiative is part of broader government efforts to climate-proof Zimbabwe’s agricultural sector and ensure long-term food security.

Mnangagwa noted that the country has already seen improvements in production levels and pledged continued investment to maintain upward momentum.
