Chipinge Boy Receives Lifesaving Surgery Through Discovery Ambulance Services
A 12-year-old boy from Mutema–Panganai Village in Chipinge District has undergone successful surgery in Chitungwiza after years of suffering from a hernia, thanks to the intervention of Discovery Ambulance Services under the Presidential Emergency Medical Scheme.
The boy, identified as Perfect Mashapa, had been in severe pain for more than a year, with his family unable to raise money for treatment.
His father, Jasper Mashapa, an unemployed parent of six, said he sought help from local clinics and churches but could not secure assistance.
Clinics referred the child to hospitals in Mutare, but the family could not afford the costs.
The case was eventually brought to the attention of ZANU–PF councillor Jenepha Dzambo of Ward 3, who relayed the matter to the area’s Member of Parliament.
Discovery Ambulance Services, in partnership with the Ministry of Health and Child Care, then facilitated Perfect’s transfer and operation in Chitungwiza General Hosipital.
“My child was in pain for more than a year. We had no money and no help to take him to hospital for the operation.
Discovery came through, and I want to thank their founder and the President, who is improving the health system for people like us,” said Jasper Mashapa.
On Saturday, Discovery Ambulance Services extended their outreach to Tanganda Primary School (Pamuuyu) in Ward 4B, Mutema–Musikavanhu Constituency, where they provided free medical screening, consultations, and medication to hundreds of villagers.
The programme coincided with a ZANU–PF Inter-District meeting attended by Manicaland Provincial Chairman Cde Tawanda Mukodza and Chipinge DCC Chairman Cde Themba Mnaiwa.
Discovery Ambulance Services Founder and CEO, Cde David Munowenyu, who is also a ZANU–PF provincial member, said the organisation’s mission is to ensure *“no person and no place is left behind” in times of medical need.
The initiative forms part of efforts aligned with President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s Vision 2030, aimed at expanding access to healthcare and strengthening emergency response systems across Zimbabwe.
For Perfect and his family, the programme has already delivered life-changing results.
