The Zimbabwe Youth Action Platform (ZYAP) has called on ZANU-PF to expedite the implementation of a 2024 party resolution endorsing President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s continuation in office for an additional two years.

In a statement ahead of the ruling party’s upcoming annual conference in Manicaland, ZYAP national commander Tonderai Chidawa said Resolution Number 1, adopted at last year’s People’s Conference, must move from rhetoric to action.

“This conference must not degenerate into a mere talk show. The implementation of Resolution Number 1 is imperative. It represents our collective trust in President Mnangagwa’s leadership and ensures the progress we have achieved is sustained and accelerated,” Chidawa said.

He pointed to infrastructure projects, improvements in education and healthcare, and ongoing economic reforms as proof of government progress under Mnangagwa’s administration. He said continuity of leadership was crucial to achieving Vision 2030, which aims to transform Zimbabwe into an upper-middle-income economy.

“A driver does not abandon the wheel before the vehicle reaches its destination. President Mnangagwa is steering the Vision 2030 bus, and we cannot afford detours or distractions,” Chidawa said.

Chidawa also warned against attempts to stall the resolution, saying such moves would undermine party cohesion and public confidence.

“Any attempt to derail this resolution threatens not only internal cohesion but also the confidence of the Zimbabwean people who entrusted us with their mandate,” he said.

The Manicaland conference, set for later this year, is expected to reaffirm party unity, consolidate political direction, and outline strategies to accelerate development. Analysts say discussions will likely center on sustaining economic growth, implementing social reforms, and strengthening the party ahead of the future.
