Progress Steady on Harare-Mazowe Road Dualisation
The ongoing dualisation of the Harare-Mazowe Road—an essential component of the broader Harare-Angwa-Kanyemba Highway Project—is moving ahead smoothly, with active work taking place across several sections of the route.
A large workforce and an extensive range of heavy equipment are currently on-site, working around the clock to transform the existing road into a modern dual carriageway. The improved infrastructure is expected to boost traffic safety, reduce travel time, and enhance overall accessibility for commuters and transporters alike.
The project is seen as a strategic economic enabler, particularly for the Mazowe district and the greater Mashonaland Central province, which connects directly to Harare through this key corridor.
Many locals have praised the development. “We’re grateful to President Emmerson Mnangagwa and the government for prioritising infrastructure. This road will reduce accidents and make travel much easier,” said one motorist.
Another resident shared, “What’s happening on the Mazowe road is transformational. It’s not only about convenience; it’s about opening up the entire province.”
A third added, “With the road improving, we expect more business activity. We have agriculture and mining here—better roads will attract more investors.”
Mazowe Acting District Development Coordinator, Mr. Joseph Edwards, also welcomed the progress, noting the road’s potential to spark economic growth.
“This development turns the route into a business corridor. Investors often follow infrastructure, and with agriculture being a major activity in the district, we expect an increase in production and value addition,” he said.
Current works are concentrated on the stretch between Boulevard Road Roundabout and Blue Ridge, with completion expected by year-end. The dualisation will eventually extend to the Concession turn-off, with further road construction planned all the way to Kanyemba in Mbire district—part of the government’s broader commitment to inclusive, nationwide development.
