President Mnangagwa Meets Huawei to Boost AI and Digital Training

President Emmerson Mnangagwa met with a delegation from Huawei Technologies today to discuss initiatives aimed at advancing Zimbabwe’s digital economy, according to a statement from the Department of Presidential Communications.
The talks focused on upgrading the country’s High Performance Computer Centre with artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities and establishing a digital training facility to expand technological expertise.
The High Performance Computer Centre, a key infrastructure for data processing, is set to receive an AI-driven upgrade to enhance its performance.
This development is expected to improve efficiency across sectors, including governance, public safety, and economic planning.
The proposed digital training facility will aim to equip Zimbabweans with skills to leverage AI and digital technologies, fostering innovation and workforce development.
The initiatives align with Zimbabwe’s push to accelerate its digital economy, with AI applications expected to benefit industries such as agriculture, healthcare, and security.
The Department of Presidential Communications emphasised that these projects aim to spread the benefits of AI to society at large, promoting transparency and efficiency in public administration.
However, no specific timeline or funding details for the initiatives were disclosed during the meeting.
Huawei Technologies, a global leader in telecommunications and AI solutions, has been a key partner in Zimbabwe’s digital transformation efforts.
