748 Nabbed in Firearm Law Violations
Police have arrested 748 suspects across the country for violations related to unlicensed firearms, unlawful possession of dangerous weapons, and the misuse of toy guns.
The nationwide crackdown targets individuals with unrenewed firearm licenses, illegal possession of weapons, and the improper use of imitation firearms.
National Police Spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi, confirmed the arrests, noting that the operation is code-named:
“No to Illegal Firearms, Misuse of Toy Guns, and Dangerous Weapons.”
“As of September 1, 2025, the Zimbabwe Republic Police has arrested 748 suspects for possessing unlicensed firearms, failing to renew firearm licences, misusing toy guns, and unlawfully possessing other dangerous weapons,” said Commissioner Nyathi.
He emphasized that any failure to comply with legal regulations surrounding the possession, use, or certification of firearms is a criminal offense under the Firearms Act (Chapter 10:09).
Commissioner Nyathi also urged the public to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious firearm-related activities to the nearest police station.
