President Xi Calls for Strengthened China-Zimbabwe Relations During Historic Visit
On Thursday morning, Chinese President Xi Jinping proposed strengthening ties between China and Zimbabwe by upgrading their relationship to an “All-Weather China–Zimbabwe Community with a Shared Future” during talks with Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa at the Great Hall of the People.
President Xi, who was welcoming President Mnangagwa to China for the 80th anniversary of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, emphasized the importance of learning from history.
He stated, “We must collectively remember history, firmly promote global peace, reject power politics, uphold fairness and justice in international affairs, and work towards a more equitable global order.”
The discussion coincided with the 45th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries. President Xi highlighted the growing strength of the longstanding friendship, describing it as a “Five-Star Ironclad” bond.
He proposed elevating their partnership to serve as a model of solidarity and cooperation not only between China and Zimbabwe but also across Africa and the Global South.
President Mnangagwa thanked his host for the hospitality and reaffirmed Zimbabwe’s commitment to strengthening political trust and expanding collaboration across various sectors to fulfill the shared development goals of both nations.
