A 57-year-old school head from Magunje, Hurungwe, has been sentenced to three years in prison after being found guilty of sexually abusing a 14-year-old student.

The court heard that in May 2024, the headmaster initiated inappropriate contact with the learner, eventually luring her into a relationship.

He allegedly manipulated and exploited the child over several months, arranging repeated encounters.

“The offender then called the victim that same evening, complimented her beauty, and promised her heaven on earth if she agreed to be his wife. The following day, the offender called the victim to his office and forced her to go with him to his stand where he parked his vehicle, removed her clothes, and had protected sexual intercourse with her at the back of his car,” said the state.

The abuse only came to light in April 2025, when the victim’s sister noticed suspicious items in her possession and informed their mother. The matter was reported to the police, leading to the victim disclosing the abuse.

The case resulted in the headmaster’s conviction and custodial sentence.
