A 37-year-old man from Mubaiwa Village under Chief Mugabe in Masvingo was murdered after allegedly refusing to buy beer at a local business centre.

According to Masvingo Provincial Spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa, on 17 September 2025, around midnight, 37-year-old Rabson Madziva was murdered after refusing to buy Emmeerson Madziva beer.

“Rabson Madziva was drinking beer at Chikarudzo Business Centre together with his friend, Simon Taruona. It is alleged that the accused, Emmerson Mudavanhu (32), asked Madziva to buy him beer, but Madziva refused.

Madziva later left for home, and both Taruona and Mudavanhu followed him. When they arrived at Madziva’s homestead, Mudavanhu confronted him over the refusal to buy beer. He allegedly used a firewood log to assault Madziva all over the body until he collapsed. Taruona restrained him after noticing that Madziva had fallen unconscious.

The two then left for their homes. The following morning, Taruona went back to Madziva’s homestead, where he found him dead,” said Inspector Dhewa.

The matter was reported to Muchakata Police Station, leading to Mudavanhu’s arrest. Madziva’s body was taken to Masvingo Provincial Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Inspector Dhewa urged members of the public to resolve disputes peacefully. “We urge members of the public to resort to dialogue and avoid settling disputes under the influence of alcohol,” he added.
