Stanbic Bank Zimbabwe has handed over a refurbished children’s ward and vital medical equipment to Sally Mugabe Central Hospital, in a move aimed at strengthening the country’s healthcare services.

The bank invested nearly US$140,000 towards the initiative, with US$99,000 used for renovations including painting, tiling, carpentry, and rewiring, while an additional US$40,000 went towards purchasing critical medical equipment.

Among the donated items are two Bubble CPAP units with trolleys, humidifiers and compressors, five infusion pumps, and five phototherapy lamps – all essential for treating newborns and children in need of high-dependency care.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, Stanbic Bank Executive Director for Corporate and Investment Banking, Mrs. Betty Murambadoro, said the intervention was part of the bank’s commitment to improving community health.

The hospital’s Director of Clinical Services, Dr. Harunavamwe Chifamba, praised the donation, noting that the new machines would significantly improve treatment outcomes for conditions such as jaundice, severe pneumonia, and malaria.

Parents of children admitted to the ward also shared testimonies of how the equipment had already contributed to their children’s recovery.

The handover extends a partnership between Stanbic Bank and Sally Mugabe Central Hospital, which began in 2021 with investments in maternity wing renovations. The bank has also funded corrective surgeries for children with disabilities at CURE Children’s Hospital in Bulawayo and donated equipment to several hospitals across the country.
