The Vice President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Hon. Colonel (Rtd) K.C.D. Mohadi, officially opened the 2025 Public Service Retirement Conference at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fairgrounds in Bulawayo.

The event brought together public servants, policymakers, private sector partners, and development experts to discuss structured retirement planning and strategies for a dignified post-service life.

The conference, themed “Retirement Planning in Action, Transforming Insights into Realities,” is designed to promote structured retirement planning, share best practices, and implement practical solutions that empower civil servants to retire with confidence and financial security.

Vice President Mohadi emphasized that retirement should be seen not as the end of service but as a new phase of productive engagement.

Speaking at the opening, Vice President Mohadi highlighted the importance of retirement planning in achieving Vision 2030, Zimbabwe’s roadmap to becoming an upper-middle-income country.

“Financial futures for civil servants would promote dignity, stability, and continued contribution to national development, even after leaving active service.

“The conference also showcased key government initiatives, including the 2024 amendment to the Pension and Provident Funds Act, designed to safeguard retirees’ contributions through inflation-proof investments and transparent governance,” said Vice President Mohadi.

Other initiatives, such as the National Housing Delivery Program and rural development projects, aim to provide civil servants with security and opportunities for meaningful engagement in retirement. Universities and innovation hubs were called upon to reskill retirees and prepare them for active societal participation beyond formal service.

Vice President Mohadi commended the PSC for ensuring an efficient and forward-looking public service.

“People must take personal action in planning for their retirement while challenging private sector partners to develop accessible and affordable financial products tailored to public servants’ needs,” Vice President stated.

Drawing inspiration from the nation’s liberation heroes during the First and Second Chimurengas, he highlighted the importance of service, dedication, and patriotism in driving Zimbabwe’s development.

“The 2025 Public Service Retirement Conference represents a milestone in Zimbabwe’s efforts to strengthen public service systems, enhance financial security for retirees, and align civil service policies with the country’s long-term development goals, Vice President added.

By fostering proactive retirement planning and innovative support mechanisms, the government aims to ensure that civil servants transition smoothly into retirement while continuing to contribute to the nation’s growth.
