Chipinge Inmate Sentenced for Escaping Lawful Custody
A 25-year-old inmate has been sentenced to three years in prison, with one year suspended, after escaping from lawful custody in Chipinge.
According to a statement released by the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), the Chipinge Magistrates’ Court convicted Andrew Dakarai Nechiora (25) of escaping from lawful custody while serving a sentence for robbery.
“The offender, who was already serving a sentence for robbery, escaped on the 15th of September 2025 while fetching firewood with 11 other inmates at the Chipinge Prison Farm. correct grammar and put an introduction and a conclusion. He slipped away unnoticed in a bushy area, despite an immediate search. The offender could not be found.
A report was later filed at ZRP Chipinge Urban and the offender was rearrested on the 16th of September when Prison Officials received information that the offender had returned to his home in St Kelvin in Chipinge”, said the NPAZ statement.
The NPAZ emphasized that such acts undermine prison security and would be met with firm legal consequences to deter other inmates from attempting similar offenses.
