Scottland Edge Manica Diamonds to Claim Crucial Win
Walter Musona’s early strike in the 4th minute was enough to hand Scottland FC a crucial 1-0 victory over Manica Diamonds at Rufaro Stadium on Friday.
The win lifted Scottland FC to the summit of the league table with 56 points, one ahead of Simba Bhora, who are away on CAF Champions League duty.
The result also ended Scottland’s three-match winless streak across all competitions, much to the relief of head coach Tonderai Ndiraya.
“This victory has lifted a lot of pressure after going for several games without a win. Credit goes to the players for handling that tough period, and as a coach, I’m pleased with today’s performance,” Ndiraya said.
For Manica Diamonds, however, the loss was a major setback in their relegation fight. Coach Tafadzwa Mashiri admitted his side’s slow start proved costly.
“It’s a painful loss because we hoped to get something here to ease our relegation worries. Unfortunately, our poor start allowed the opponents to control the match, and in the end, one chance decided the result. That’s football. We now have to focus on the next game,” he said.
Manica Diamonds remain in 12th place with 33 points, but their position could worsen as other relegation-threatened teams play their fixtures over the weekend.
