President Mnangagwa Hands Over 102 Vehicles to Senior Army Officers
President Emmerson Mnangagwa, Commander-in-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defense Forces (ZDF), this morning handed over a fleet of 102 staff vehicles to senior army officers at the ZNA Msasa Logistics Garrison Depot, marking the first phase of a broader government initiative to enhance military mobility and operational efficiency.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, President Mnangagwa urged the recipients to be responsible stewards of the new assets.
“Finally, to the recipients of the vehicles, I urge you to take good care of these assets and use them for the intended purposes, while adding value to your respective offices, duty stations, and the overall work of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces,” he said.
The President highlighted that the initiative addresses a longstanding gap in the conditions of service for senior army officers, ensuring they receive their entitled benefits and improving both welfare and operational effectiveness within the ZDF.
“The vehicles I am commissioning today are under the first phase of a comprehensive programme that will see government procuring vehicles, including buses, towards enhancing mobility across the rank and file of the ZDF,” he added.
President Mnangagwa commended the ZDF for maintaining a peaceful, harmonious, and tranquil environment, which he described as vital for Zimbabwe’s development, industrialisation, and modernisation.
He also assured that his administration would continue equipping the military with the necessary tools, equipment, and modern technologies to enable the effective discharge of its mandate. “Going forward, my government will do its part to ensure that the military is continually equipped with the requisite tools, equipment, and resources, as well as modern technologies,” he said.
The handover forms part of ongoing efforts by the government to modernise the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, improve service conditions for senior officers, and strengthen operational capacity across all military units.
