Avenues Clinic unveils modern women’s ward as facelift gathers pace
The Avenues Clinic has opened a newly refurbished women’s health ward as part of its ongoing multimillion-dollar modernization programme, raising the bar in private healthcare.
The state-of-the-art Ward 2 North, now dedicated to obstetrics and gynecology, brings the hospital’s renovation project to two-thirds completion. Upgrades have already been carried out on the surgical, medical, children’s and private wards, with the final phase set to focus on maternity and neonatal intensive care units.
General Manager Sibusisiwe Ndhlovu said the facelift is transforming patient care step by step.
“This is a journey we are undertaking with intent. Two-thirds of the wards are already complete, with the third floor and our theatres still to go. Health is not an easy business, but with patience and focus, we will get there,” she said.
The ward is tailored to the needs of women—offering modern facilities for pregnancy, childbirth and overall women’s health—while promising a blend of clinical excellence and comfort.
Principal Nursing Officer Florence Ogwal said the project is about creating a true healing environment.
“Beyond excellent nursing care, we want to make sure patients feel at home. We do not discriminate based on medical packages—every patient matters. Our service is second to none in Southern Africa, and soon, we will be offering open-heart surgery right here,” she noted.
Ogwal added that affordability will not compromise quality, with patients across all income brackets expected to benefit equally from the hospital’s upgraded services.
With theatres already equipped and further renovations on the way, Avenues Clinic says its goal is to deliver world-class medical outcomes while complementing government efforts to strengthen Zimbabwe’s health system.
“When someone is unwell, they deserve a comfortable, trusted space for healing,” Ndhlovu said. “That is what we are committed to providing.”
