A 29-year-old man, Thembinkosi Ncube, has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for r@ping an elderly woman.

According to a statement released by the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), the Plumtree Magistrates’ Court convicted Ncube and handed down the sentence after finding him guilty of r@pe.

“On the night of 9 April, at approximately 2000 hours, the offender approached the home of a 61-year-old woman in Mphoengs. The offender gained entry into the victim’s residence through a window. The victim woke up and found him inside her house.

“He forcibly undressed her, ordered her to lie down, and r@ped her. During the ordeal, the offender threatened to harm the victim if she reported the crime. After the act, he dressed and left the house through the same window, leaving the victim traumatised,” said the NPAZ statement.

Following the incident, the victim reported the matter to the police, who responded promptly. Investigations led to the arrest of the offender.

The NPAZ urged communities to take a stand against s@xual violence, to support survivors, and to report such crimes immediately. The authority stressed that rape is a grave violation of human rights and dignity.

“S@xual abuse is a serious violation that demands justice, not silence. Survivors deserve to be heard, believed, and supported. Together, we must speak out, stand with survivors, and work to end sexual violence in our communities,”  the NPAZ  added.
