The uncertainty surrounding the mental health of social media personality Talent Moyo has finally been resolved.

Two government-appointed doctors have certified Moyo as mentally fit, clearing the way for his long-delayed trial to proceed. The influencer appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Takudzwa Gwazemba for a routine remand hearing, during which the medical report was presented.

Moyo was formally declared sane and remanded in custody until October 13, when his trial on theft charges is scheduled to begin.

The 27-year-old, known for his unfiltered videos and attention-grabbing antics that have earned him thousands of online followers, was arrested two weeks ago after allegedly taking US$150 from a businesswoman in Bulawayo’s central business district.

Despite the serious nature of the allegation, Moyo appeared relaxed in court, even smiling at fans who had gathered to watch the proceedings. His casual demeanor initially raised questions about his mental state, prompting the magistrate to order an assessment by two state doctors.

The doctors’ findings leave Moyo with no excuse, and his legal fate now rests solely with the court.

The arrest sparked a heated debate on social media. Some condemned his actions, labeling him a menace, while others defended him.
“Talent harasses women in town and needs help or jail time,” one Facebook user wrote. Another supporter countered: “He just craves attention. He’s not a thief.”

Court documents detail the alleged incident, which occurred on September 11. The complainant, 38-year-old Value Chivange from Lobengula West, was walking along 6th Avenue near Jason Moyo Street when Moyo allegedly reached into her pockets and took US$150 in broad daylight.

“The accused unlawfully took US$150 belonging to the complainant with the intent to permanently deprive her of the money,” the State’s outline states.

Chivange reported the matter to police, leading to a swift manhunt and Moyo’s subsequent arrest. None of the stolen funds have been recovered.

The case has become a trending topic in Bulawayo, highlighting Moyo’s history of controversial stunts and past conflicts with women. For many, the upcoming trial represents more than a theft case—it is an opportunity to hold a provocative public figure accountable.
