Glenview South is intensifying efforts to combat the scourge of drug and substance abuse, with local Member of Parliament Hon. Tsitsi Tawombera spearheading the campaign.

The initiative has gained significant momentum through collaboration with the Minister of Youths, Hon. Tinoda Machakaire, and the Harare Minister of State, Hon. Tawengwa, underscoring the seriousness with which authorities are treating the crisis.

Speaking during the campaign rollout, Hon. Tawombera emphasized the need for unity in addressing the problem. “This is not just a Glenview South issue—it is a national crisis. We must protect our youth and secure our communities,” said Hon Tawombera.

Minister of Youth Tinoda Machakaire echoed the call, highlighting government’s commitment to youth rehabilitation and empowerment programs, while Minister of State for Harare Province Hon  Tawengwa stressed the importance of coordinated enforcement and community awareness drives.

The joint approach reflects a growing recognition that the drug problem cannot be tackled by isolated interventions but requires partnerships between lawmakers, ministries, and the community.

Drug and substance abuse has emerged as one of the most pressing social challenges in Harare’s high-density suburbs, particularly among youths. Reports of school dropouts, rising crime, and deteriorating health linked to drug use have prompted urgent action from both government and community leaders.

As the campaign gains traction, Glenview South is being positioned as a model constituency in the fight against drug and substance abuse, offering a blueprint that other areas may soon adopt.
