A 50-year-old man from Chimanimani has been convicted of an effective 15-year jail term for attempting to r@pe an 11-year-old juvenile.

According to the statement released by the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), the Chipinge Magistrates’ Court found the offender (50) guilty of attempting to r@pe an 11-year-old juvenile.

“On the 20th of September 2025, around 1200 hours, the offender, who stays in the same compound as the victim, found her in the kitchen and grabbed her before closing the door.

He then throttled the victim and forcibly removed her clothes, and was interrupted by a neighbour who had visited the homestead. The victim later narrated the incident to her mother, and a police report was made, leading to the offender’s arrest,” said the NPA statement.

The NPAZ urged communities to take a stand against s@xual violence, to support survivors, and to report such crimes immediately. The authority stressed that r@pe is a grave violation of human rights and dignity

“This sentence serves as a reminder that pedophiles have no place in society and must be severely punished. Communities are also urged to play their part in protecting children from abuse,” emphasized the NPA.
