Zimbabwe is continuing to make strides in advancing women’s participation and leadership within football, with the country’s own Ivy Mukahanana recently flying the national flag high at an international stage.

Mukahanana represented Zimbabwe at the FIFA Women in Football Leadership Programme (WFLP) workshop held in Switzerland, a prestigious platform designed to empower women in football administration through mentorship, capacity-building and leadership training.

The WFLP, which runs from August 2025 to April 2026, brings together 25 participants from FIFA Member Associations across the globe. It focuses on developing leadership skills, confidence, and strategic thinking among women working in football structures — ensuring they are equipped to take on senior roles and contribute meaningfully to the sport’s growth.

The recent four-day module in Switzerland concentrated on personal and peer coaching, network building, and practical leadership sessions, all aimed at strengthening collaboration and inclusivity in football governance.

ZIFA, through Mukahanana’s participation, continues to demonstrate its commitment to promoting gender balance within football administration. The association says this recognition from FIFA is not only a personal milestone for Ivy but also a reflection of Zimbabwe’s progress in nurturing female leaders who can shape the future of the game.

ZIFA expressed pride in partnering with FIFA on such initiatives that open global doors for women in football.

“This achievement underscores our belief that empowering women is key to the growth and sustainability of football in Zimbabwe,” a ZIFA spokesperson said.

Mukahanana’s participation adds to a growing list of Zimbabwean women breaking barriers in sport leadership — a positive signal that women’s football in the country is not just growing on the pitch, but also within the boardroom.

Her journey stands as an inspiration to many young women aspiring to make an impact in football administration.

Congratulations to Ivy Mukahanana — a shining example of Zimbabwe’s emerging generation of women leaders, proving that when women rise, football rises with them.
