Country music legend Dolly Parton is recovering after recent health challenges forced her to cancel public appearances and postpone a planned Las Vegas residency. The 79-year-old star’s sister, Freida Parton, has clarified comments that caused widespread concern among fans after she asked for prayers for her famous sibling.

The statement comes days after Dolly announced she had been diagnosed with a kidney stone and needed time off for “a few procedures” to address ongoing medical issues. The singer was scheduled to perform six shows at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace this December, but those concerts have now been rescheduled for September next year.

Freida Parton had earlier taken to Facebook, sharing that her sister “hasn’t been feeling her best lately” and urging fans to join her in prayer. The post quickly gained attention across social media, with fans expressing worry about Dolly’s health.

However, in a follow-up message, Freida clarified that her initial post was not meant to alarm anyone.

“I want to clear something up. I didn’t mean to scare anyone or make it sound so serious when asking for prayers for Dolly,” she wrote. “She’s been a little under the weather, and I simply asked for prayers because I believe so strongly in the power of prayer. It was nothing more than a little sister asking for prayers for her big sister.”

Freida also thanked fans for their support, saying, “Your love truly makes a difference.”

A spokesperson for Dolly Parton confirmed to CBS News, the BBC’s U.S. partner, that the singer will address her fans directly this week through a social media post aimed at easing concerns.

The singer’s recent health setback comes after a difficult period in her personal life. Earlier this year, Parton lost her husband of nearly six decades, Carl Dean. She later paid tribute to him in an emotional song titled If You Hadn’t Been There.

Despite the health concerns, those close to the star remain optimistic. Freida ended her message on a hopeful note, writing:

“She’s strong, she’s loved, and with all the prayers being lifted for her, I know in my heart she’s going to be just fine. Godspeed, my sissy Dolly. We all love you.”

Known for timeless classics such as Jolene, 9 to 5, Coat of Many Colors and I Will Always Love You, Dolly Parton remains one of America’s most celebrated entertainers. Her upcoming Las Vegas residency would mark her first return to the Strip since the 1990s, when she last performed alongside the late Kenny Rogers.

Fans around the world continue to send messages of love and support as the country icon takes time to rest and recover before returning to the stage.
