Government has dismissed as fictitious and defamatory a document circulating online purporting to be an official Intelligence and Risk Assessment Report, warning that those behind the publication are in violation of the country’s cyber laws.

Minister of Information, Media and Broadcasting Services and official Government spokesperson, Dr. Jenfan Muswere, said the document in question was “criminal, misleading, and defamatory,” and urged the public to ignore it.

“The Government of Zimbabwe has noted with concern the circulation of a fictitious document purporting to be an Intelligence and Risk Assessment Report,” read part of the statement. “The violation of cyber legislation is condemned in the strongest terms.”

Dr. Muswere said that all official Government communication is issued exclusively through verified and legitimate channels, including formal statements from ministries and agencies.

“The public is urged to disregard the criminal, misleading, and defamatory publication,” the Minister said.

The statement further warned that the circulation of false documents, particularly those designed to mislead the public or tarnish reputations, constitutes a serious breach of the Cyber and Data Protection Act and other relevant statutes.

Authorities are expected to investigate the origin and distribution of the fake report.

The Government reiterated its commitment to ensuring the integrity of official information and maintaining public trust amid rising cases of misinformation spread through digital platforms.
