Govt Secures Funds to Pay ZIMSEC Exam Markers
The Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Torerayi Moyo, assured Parliament that the government now has adequate funds to pay teachers marking public examinations administered by the Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (ZIMSEC).
Moyo made the remarks while responding to questions from legislators during the National Assembly’s Question and Answer session
“ZIMSEC receives funds from the Treasury every two weeks, which will be used to pay all exam markers for Grade 7, O-Level, and A-Level exams,” said Moyo.
His remarks come amid growing frustration from teachers over past payment delays. In both the 2023 and 2024 exam cycles, many markers complained of late or incomplete payments, unclear timelines, and poor communication from ZIMSEC regarding disbursements.
“I am happy to inform the House that we have the funds to pay the markers,” added Moyo.
Some teachers claim they were never paid, while others waited months for partial payments, raising concerns about fairness and transparency in the examination system.
Grade Seven exams concluded on Monday, while O-Level and A-Level exams are scheduled to begin next week.
