Zimbabwe ‘A’ Squad Named for Three Day Clash Against MCC Side
Zimbabwe Cricket has announced a 13-man Zimbabwe ‘A’ squad set to face the touring Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) in a three-day match beginning this Friday at Old Hararians Sports Club in Harare.
The fixture marks the latest chapter in the long-standing cricket relationship between Zimbabwe and the historic MCC, who are on a short tour of the country aimed at fostering competitive cricket and development opportunities for emerging players.
The selected Zimbabwe ‘A’ squad includes a strong blend of experience and youthful promise, featuring players who have represented the national side in recent international fixtures. Among them are Wessly Madhevere, Clive Madande, and Tadiwanashe Marumani, all of whom have been part of Zimbabwe’s senior team setup in the past months.
The bowling department will be spearheaded by Tinotenda Maposa and Vincent Masekesa, both looking to continue their fine form and stake claims for more consistent national selection.
Also included are rising talents Antum Naqvi, Takudzwa Chataira, and Anesu Kamuriwo, who are yet to earn full international caps but have impressed in domestic competitions with their performances for provincial sides. Their inclusion is seen as part of Zimbabwe Cricket’s continued efforts to broaden the player base and prepare a new generation for senior team duties.
The three-day match is expected to provide valuable game time for fringe players and a testing platform for selectors to assess depth ahead of upcoming international assignments.
Following the first-class fixture in Harare, the MCC will round off their Zimbabwe tour with three T20 matches against the Zimbabwe Academy at Takashinga Cricket Club next week, in what promises to be a busy and exciting period for local cricket fans.
Zimbabwe Cricket officials said the MCC tour forms part of broader efforts to enhance player development and strengthen ties with international cricket bodies.
