Honourable Barbara Rwodzi, Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry, is steering Zimbabwe’s tourism sector to unprecedented success. Under her visionary leadership, Zimbabwe has been named the Best Destination Country for 2025, marking the first time in the nation’s history it has achieved this global recognition.

Personal and Professional Career

Hon. Rwodzi is a seasoned entrepreneur and business leader with an MBA from Nottingham Trent University. She began her career at the age of 19, managing family businesses with her husband, Mutonhori Rwodzi. Between 1999 and 2009, the couple successfully ran agricultural exports to the SADC region, Netherlands, England, Hong Kong, and China, alongside groceries and bottle stores.

In 2009, Hon. Rwodzi launched her own handmade knitwear export business, serving markets in the UK, Australia, and USA, before venturing into green energy with MED in 2013. Her entrepreneurial journey reflects innovation, resilience, and a commitment to economic growth and community development.

Political Background

In 2018, Hon. Rwodzi transitioned into public service as Member of Parliament for Chirumhanzu Constituency. She quickly gained recognition for her leadership, serving as Secretary for Finance for Midlands Province’s main wing, and was appointed Deputy Minister of Environment, Climate, Tourism and Hospitality Industry in December 2021.

In September 2023, she became Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry, where she has championed sustainable tourism, cultural promotion, and international marketing campaigns.

Her work has not only enhanced Zimbabwe’s tourism appeal but has also empowered local communities, strengthened hospitality infrastructure, and positioned the country as a world-class travel destination.
